It depends on your personal preference and probably level of skills. Canva and photoshop which is the user-friendly ?.In short, this is an awesome addition to Exposure X7. The process was super quick and easy, while you also had the tools you needed should you be looking to be a perfectionist. I simply desaturated, added contrast and softened the clarity on the background. Once you’ve created your mask you can choose to stick with the auto layer tool you selected or you can make multiple changes within the mask using any of the sliders and tools. You can refine and perfect the mask to whatever degree you require using all the masking options available, but I was looking to see how quickly and effectively I could get results. Within seconds I was able to select the background of the image to separate this from my subjects with ease. These are extensive! I was hugely impressed with the number of options here and the possible ways of creating a mask. You select which layer adjustment you want to make to create a new layer, and then the masking options show beneath. ![]() I went straight in with the new masking tool, which is situated in the layers panel. It has a beautiful subtle pop and a great base that works on arguably any image. There’s also now the ability to select different pre-programmed workspaces for organising the panels needed for any particular task within your workflow, while the crop and transform tools have been unified into a single easyto-use panel.Īdditionally, there’s now new composition guides, defective pixel removal, more accurate colour reproduction using the DCP colour profiles, improved colour fidelity with DNG files and fine texture noise can now be added to recover detail with heavy noise reduction.įOR THE FIRST STEP I applied a trusty favourite preset of mine in Exposure, the emulation of Kodak’s legendary Ektachrome EES. One of the killer features in Exposure X7 is a brand-new masking tool, something that’s been sorely missed in previous versions and this is going to be a game changer for this program and it’s something I’m really excited about. Made for creative photographers, it offers extensive filmic emulation styles (over 500+ built in presets might I add) and unique artistic tools that are so good that some of the world’s most iconic photographers can be found using them in their post-production. It started off in 2005 as a film emulation plug-in for Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, but now it’s a complete RAW photo editing suite. Given all this and the high level of anticipation that’s accompanied news of the major X7 upgrade that’s just taken place I was excited to have the opportunity to take a pre-launch look at what was coming up.įor those new to Exposure, you should be aware that it has a cult following for good reason. The package combines professional grade photo adjustments, a huge library of gorgeous photo looks and an efficient design with automatic adjustments, and I actively promote it as a crucial part of a professional’s workflow to the photographers that I teach.
